Hanna Mary Dibble Wright (Mrs. George G. )

H. Mary Wright was a charter member of Des Moines Women’s Club from 1885-1891. She was born in 1920 in Saratoga County, N.Y. to Thomas and Ruth (Gates) Dibble. She moved to Keosauqua, Iowa after her marriage to Judge George G. Wright in October 19, 1843 then a country lawyer in Keosauqua. In 1865 they moved to Des Moines. They had seven children who were all born in Keosauqua.

Mrs. Wright was a prominent member of the Red Cross in Iowa during World War I. In addition to the Des Moines Women’s Club, she was a member of the American Association of the Advancement of Women, member of the Polk County Old Settlers Association, and a long time president of the board of the Women’s Christian Home.

She was “a homemaker with a large family and a large house always filled with guests… she was an independent thinker and had decided opinions… In late life an ardent Christian Scientist. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar H. Stone in Sioux City,” Her portrait was donated to the club by her son Craig Laselles Wright.
